Betting, explained.

Five plain-English guides to UK betting. Written by named editors. Nothing promotional.

Every guide on this page is written by a named editor, explains one concept end-to-end with a worked example, and links back to the relevant parts of our methodology. We cover the five questions we get most often from readers: how accumulators work mathematically, the difference between decimal and fractional odds, when cash-out is worth taking, how each-way bets pay, and where the T&Cs hide on "free bet" offers. Every example uses real operators and real odds values from the operators we review.

Guides are reviewed annually and updated when a referenced law (Gambling Act 2005), regulatory code (UKGC LCCP), or operator convention materially changes. Where a specific operator is referenced as an example, the reference is checked quarterly against the operator's current product. All guides are authored under the same two-editor pre-publication review we apply to bookmaker reviews and dispatches.
