DISPATCH · SNOOKER

The Crucible fortnight and the operators that take it seriously

Rupert Fenchurch · 9 April 2026

Seventeen days of snooker in Sheffield, six operators with materially different live coverage, and the three that make a difference for the viewer with a small stake and an afternoon's attention.

The dispatch runs to 1,500–2,500 words in print. On a race week it sits alongside the Editor's Letter, the seasonal operator-in-focus review and the secondary dispatches that complete the quarterly collection.

Our dispatches are written by named editors who take ownership of the argument and the measurement. The byline above this line is the reader's first point of contact. The commercial disclosure at the foot of the page sets out the full affiliate relationship.

A considered verdict, not a dismissal. — Rupert Fenchurch

The secondary dispatches for the current issue are listed on the Quarterly archive page, along with the issue's Editor's Letter and the operator-in-focus review. The next dispatch in this series will be published on the first Friday of the next quarterly month.
